Get to know me!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

My name is Alyssa, I use she/her pronouns. I am a certified birth doula, certified postpartum doula, and licensed physical therapist! I am here to help you on your journey to have your most positive, empowered birth experience possible. A little about me: I have always been passionate about pregnancy, birth, and the development of infants and toddlers. I started my career as a physical therapist in early intervention, working with infants and toddlers birth to three years old, and their families. I love building relationships with my clients and helping them gain confidence in helping their child grow and develop. It is super fulfilling work and very entertaining on most days (two year olds are a hoot!) However, I always felt that my mind kept coming back to my fascination with my clients’ birth stories and what happened before they got to me. I heard about doulas for the first time when one of my close friends was pregnant. After doing some research, it really piqued my curiosity.

I decided to train as a birth doula through DONA International in July 2019 and fell in love with doula work. Now, I work with clients with the goal of supporting them during their pregnancy and transformative birthing time. I am skilled in providing physical and emotional support to individuals in labor. I work together with you, your birthing partner or other support individuals to best support you in your idea of an empowered birth. I pair my knowledge of the physiological processes of birth with my toolbox of comfort measures to help birthing people achieve an incredible and unique birth experience. I utilize techniques such as massage, Spinning Babies® techniques, positioning, reciting birth affirmations, guided breathing, and more to help you feel as comfortable as possible during your birth experience. I also have skills and strategies to support individuals in establishing breastfeeding after birth, if they choose.

I’ve augmented my original doula training with additional coursework in supporting clients through grief and loss, breastfeeding, TTC & ART support, attended Spinning Babies® workshops, and completed my labor doula and postpartum & infant care doula certifications with ProDoula. My commitment to learning and growing my expertise is ongoing. Recently, I have also become a Certified VBAC Specialist and Certified Childbirth Educator with ProDoula. My goal is to always provide the best, unbiased, non-judgmental, evidence-based support for my clients and community.

I currently live on the Southcoast of Massachusetts with my husband, two amazing kids, and giant dog! My current obsessions are binge-watching Netflix shows, babywearing, and cloth diapering! When I was pregnant with my babies, I engaged regularly in prenatal yoga and fitness classes, daily meditations, and utilized the HypnoBabies birthing method to prepare for my birthing time. Prior to having each of my children, I experienced miscarriages due to a hereditary genetic abnormality. I truly understand the roller coaster of emotions that people can face on their individual fertility journeys. I find that I have a special connection with families who have experienced fertility challenges and loss. I know from experience how these factors can deeply affect your pregnancy and birth journey. I hope to use my compassionate personality and warm hands to help you have the best birth experience possible when you bring your sweet baby into the world!

Whether you’re a first timer or this is your sixth baby, I am the doula to help support you through one of the most transformative experiences of your life--the birth of a child.

Warmly,

Alyssa King, CD-L, CD-PIC, C-VBACS, C-CBE, PT, DPT, CEIS
